History:Ā TheĀ New Orleans Black Pelicans formed in 1926 and played in the original Negro Southern League. In 1930 the Black Pelicans played in the Texas-Louisiana Negro League and were led by local legend pitcher Robert "Black Diamond" Pipkin. The team spent some time as an independent team as well, before being a charter member of the second Negro Southern League in 1945.
